Exactly as I said, using paranoia to justify the business of warfare.

You're missing the point, Daniel.

Why in must "a space based manufacturing infrastructure" be a "business of warfare"?  I think the fact that you seem to equate them speaks more about YOU than about Larry or
anyone else.  I think you're a more violent person than you'd like to admit (especially from your other comments in this group).

Getting "a space based manufacturing infrastructure" created will let us do far more than build war toys, and getting it there FASTER increases our chances as a species to
survive our emotions by having some of our population OFF of the planet.

Hence I favor trying to build such a system for the side effect of getting a >manufacturing infrastructure *more* than for the primary reason of keeping >the world safe.

So, in the end, it's all about money and greed! Forget humanity, forget
morals, forget peace, forget the environment...let's cash in on war!

You're just fclueless.  A space-based manufacturing infrastructure is needed NOW (it sure would make building multiple space stations, let alone the current loner, a lot
easier).  It's the fastest way to global peace.  And realistically, it's going to come about MUCH faster if it is funded by military interests than private, who simply don't
have that level of cash.  And there are some products that can't exist without zero gravity during their creation - for that, you pretty much have 2 choices:
Work on them in a 747 that flies in a sinusoidal path over and over again (oh wait, that won't work, it only gives you 2min of 0g, and the compounds can't handle the gravity
between those 2min periods while climbing), or
........."a space based manufacturing infrastructure".

Sure, initially, and for some of the people behind the building, it will be all about money and greed.  For the smart ones, it will be about peace, about the environment,
about morals.  "a space based manufacturing infrastructure" is good for all of them.

(...) I think you're missing the point, Tom. Why should the beginnings of a "space based manufacturing infrastructure" be based on military applications? My whole point is that, all too often in this country, we use "enemies" to justify alarming (...) (23 years ago, 12-May-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) What is this "belligerent" stuff? Are you to decide which country is "belligerent"? Belligerent to whom? To us? What, we aren't belligerent? Are they more belligerent? Don't you find this attitude the least bit arrogant? (...) I believe we (...) (23 years ago, 12-May-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
