With the Ewoks, Leia was their advocate--she begged you to consider their good qualities. Qui-gon Jinn never had a connection with the little Gungan twerp. I'll agree there. I'd much rather have Elmo on than Barney. Heck, 3 years ago I'd be in 100% agreement with you.
