Thanks! Your initial suggestion was right on the money--I like the way the
finished product looks with the interrupted/irregular top surface. More
interesting to the eye.

You're witnessing my very first babysteps into animation, thanks to the
supercool "clock" variable in POV-Ray. This allows automatically generates
images-in-series, each modified according how you use the clock. In this case,
I simply set the mech to rotate 20 degrees for each rendering, and POV-Ray
automatically ran 30 frames. I then used Flash to stitch them together into a
continuous loop.
So far I'm only able to do the most pitifully basic motion (like simple
rotation or straight-arrow linear), but I'm optimistic about the possibilities.
