I was flipping through the channels when I noticed a shot of a minifig assembly line on TLC, so I decided to watch it. They've kind of backed me into a corner by changing the question so it's back to being specifically about degree courses and I'm not as fiercely anti-Meccano in that arena but I've (...) Further Fuel for debate Construction News wrote an article in which it says that On the Falkirk Wheel project, the guy who designed the mechanism arrived at a brainstorming session with "a model made from his son's Lego" to show how it would work!
