Re: New Civil Engineer - Lego vs Meccano debate

(...) Damn, and I put 'UKAFOL' on all those badges... Well, you can represent me and call it 'UKLUG'. I must admit it sounds a bit more official. I agree with Thomas's points, but I have one to add myself. It's not just great for modelling real (...) (23 years ago, 27-Jul-01, to lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.mediawatch)

Re: New Civil Engineer - Lego vs Meccano debate

Further Fuel for debate Construction News wrote an article in which it says that On the Falkirk Wheel project, the guy who designed the mechanism arrived at a brainstorming session with "a model made from his son's Lego" to show how it would work! James: (...) Yup! When I left yesterday's edition in the printer room, a colleague of mine commented that it was easy to see that I was back from vacation. :-) Jacob (23 years ago, 27-Jul-01, to lugnet.mediawatch, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  D.C.'s "The Spectre", Issue #5

Issue #5 of D.C.'s "The Spectre" has a page *full* of hidden lego elements. (At least 9 surefire lego elements). I'd tell you exactly what but that'd spoil all the fun (I had a blast looking through and trying to find all the little things). It's (...)   New Civil Engineer - Lego vs Meccano debate

You're about as representative as anybody else, as there's no organisation, so go for it. Of course, I retain the right to stone you to death with BURPs if I don't like what you say :-) 'course, if we've got an official representative, we might have (...)   Re: New Civil Engineer - Lego vs Meccano debate

(...) <snip> (...) Simon, I quickly wrote down some thoughts and ideas for the 300 word debate. Please use this (use exact phrases if you like) if you find it useful: The use of LEGO bricks to demonstrate civil engineering concepts has many distinct (...)   Re: LEGO in ToyFare Magazine September 2001

(...) Gah. I missed that one. I mean, that issue. I'll have to hunt it down... Anyway, I'm not surprised to hear about a big Bionicle article- apparently, one of the editors or publishers (can't remember which) really loves them- in the letter (...) (23 years ago, 26-Jul-01, to lugnet.mediawatch)

New Civil Engineer - Lego vs Meccano debate

It must be silly season... The publishers of New Civil Engineer have just emailed me to ask if I would like to contribute 300 words and a mug shot to their 'Debate' page. Normally this involves two eminent engineers making a stand on some thrilling (...) (23 years ago, 26-Jul-01, to lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.mediawatch)

LEGO in ToyFare Magazine September 2001

ToyFare Magazine has a good bit of LEGO stuff in their latest issue (yeah, I know, two months ahead but I'm not complaining). Bionicle is featured as one of two covers and has a neat write-up inside. Also, there's a very good article covering (...) (23 years ago, 26-Jul-01, to lugnet.mediawatch)

(...) I don't believe you in this point. Ok, I have no example from your pages at hand, but if that's the worst of all the models you ever built, I have to say congratulations!   Re: New Civil Engineer letter - scanned

(...) That is REALLY scary, that is about the worst engine I've ever made. Really. I hope it was featured as an example of how not to build. But I am happy, my bullet train made local news on at least one channel... (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.mediawatch, lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.technic)

Re: New Civil Engineer letter - scanned

(...) Yes it's fine to find your own stuff in a newspaper, but I'm a little irritated to get to know about this on lugnet (linked to this discussion from 1000steine.de). I think it would have been at least a question of politeness to ask me for my (...) (23 years ago, 22-Jul-01, to lugnet.mediawatch, lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.technic)

2 new magazine articles this week...

I'm sure somebody's already pointed this out, but the newest issue of Toyfare has a Bionicle cover, a Bionicle article, and an article on Licensed properties they'd like to see Lego produce. Also, the newest issue of Giant Robot (#22) has a 1-page (...) (23 years ago, 22-Jul-01, to lugnet.mediawatch)
