New Civil Engineer letter - printed!

Dear All To my considerable amazement they printed the letter! I'm at home today so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to scan and upload it. It's the first one on the letters page and is accompanied by a photo of a large Lego bridge. They cut it a (...) (23 years ago, 19-Jul-01, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.mediawatch, lugnet.loc.uk)

  Todd Mundt Show on NPR

On my way to deal to a field site to gather the last of my research seed and a deal with angry wild turkeys I was listening to the Todd Mundt show on NPR where he was interviewing a woman about a book she wrote about interesting things to do at (...)   pbs

flipping through the channels last night while watching the news and caught a glimpse of lego at the Mall of America. It then cut to a bunch of professional female football players signing autographs outside a Hooters. I didn't bother watching the (...) (23 years ago, 18-Jul-01, to lugnet.mediawatch)

Lego Sponsors Kenny Brack in Toronto too

I was just checking out the CART web site and the Lego sponsorship is on Kenny Brack's car again this weekend in Toronto. I've placed the pictures of the car on brickshelf: (URL) can also find them on www.cart.com in the photo galaries for Cleveland (...) (23 years ago, 15-Jul-01, to lugnet.mediawatch)

  Re: More Meccano vs. Lego

(...) Missed this post until now, sorry. Should I? I reckon it would be quite easy to update. Psi. (23 years ago, 9-Jul-01, to lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.mediawatch)

  More Meccano vs. Lego

Spotted this article today in the Sunday Telegraph Newspaper: (URL) Simon Bennett can write another similar letter in reply to this as well. TT. (23 years ago, 8-Jul-01, to lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.mediawatch)

  Re: New Civil Engineer letter

(...) That's great, Simon! I hope all of our comments and input were constructive enough. Your final revision of the letter was not too long, hit some very important points, and certainly made a good argument that Lego is a better "building system". (...)   Re: New Civil Engineer letter

(...) Cheers Larry, I've got a nice warm Lugnetty 'included' feeling now! All we have to do now is just sit back and watch New Civil Engineer not publish it! Psi (23 years ago, 6-Jul-01, to lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.mediawatch, lugnet.technic, lugnet.robotics)

  Re: New Civil Engineer letter

(...) [text snipped] (...) Well, I didn't comment yet in this thread, because I'm not an engineer or a teacher (though I did start in engineering at uni), and I hadn't really thought much about it. I did have one small Meccano set when I was a kid, (...) (23 years ago, 6-Jul-01, to lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.mediawatch, lugnet.technic, lugnet.robotics)

  Re: New Civil Engineer letter

In lugnet.loc.uk, Simon Bennett writes: <snip> (...) <snip> You rock. Very nicely done. I think I speak for a number of people when I say "thanks for doing this, well done!" ++Lar (23 years ago, 6-Jul-01, to lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.mediawatch, lugnet.technic, lugnet.robotics)

  Re: New Civil Engineer letter

(...) I have now sent the letter. I didn't change it that much and it's still very long but I wanted to get it out there before I got cold feet about sending it at all!   Media Site Updated

I did a few minor updates to my Appearances in the media site: (URL) discovered that I lost the Television page when I looked at the site (for the first time in months). :/ So I am going to redo the site this fall and replace that page with (...) (23 years ago, 6-Jul-01, to lugnet.mediawatch)

  Re: New Civil Engineer letter

(...) Reading your letter, I think you should send it, my remarks are better suited for an undergraduate class, or perhaps a high level high school class.   Re: New Civil Engineer letter

(...) Thanks George, I agree with much of this and am glad someone has taken the opposite view. BUT... From the context of the original letter I think the author is referring to education well below undergraduate level where analysis will not be (...)   Re: New Civil Engineer letter

(...) I think he's right. I have a BS degree in Aerospace Engineering, and took many courses in engineering mechanics. The simplifications used in engineering mechanies are better modeled by Meccano (or Erector sets) than in Lego. Techniq is better (...) (23 years ago, 5-Jul-01, to lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.mediawatch)

(...) Paddle Pop is also a particular Brand as Jonathan has pointed out. I'm not really sure what a generic term would be? I know other guys have had to build bridges using balsa wood.
