Well, my condition grading differs a bit. Here are mine
MISB - Sealed. Outer seals are intact
MIB - The outer seals may be off, but that is it. Pieces are still in
their ineer polybags.
After that, merely use a statement of whether the box is present or not,
and what the condition is.
As a general note, in my book anything that has BITE MARKS or fading or
yellowing of any sort cannot ever be called good.
For sets:
Excellent - Pieces are in like new condition. No fading, pieces still
have that 'as molded' shine
Very Good - Still no actual play wear, but pieces may have a few surface
scratches that dulls their shine.
Good - Pieces may show some minor wear and slight dulling. Still no
major scratches, damaged printing or discoloration. Definitely NO
biting.
fair - pieces may have some minor bites, some fading or wear of the
printing or some yellowing. Biting must not be extensive.
poor - anything else. Throw the pieces away unless you just don't have
another way to get them.
For boxes, basically the same notion, is the box itself worn or torn or
faded? Note that most sets, when they come from the factory, don't have
boxes that I would grade as 'excellent'. The boxes get shelfwear pretty
fast. So a MISB may have a box that I would grade as only good, or even
poor! The seals just need to be intact.
NOW, having said that, I should note that I usually don't care about box
condition or whether seals are present. But I DO care about brick
condition and I would be mighty upset to get a VG from you and find it
to have bite marks...

reexamination.

| (...) This is the rule that I follow. I had a situation just a couple of days ago--one of my sets up for auction, although MIB, wasn't MISB (even though I'd put it down that way). I contacted the buyer immediately and offered to make it up with a (...) (25 years ago, 21-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

| I have just received an e-mail saying that MIB should mean that the set is sealed and by listing an opened set as MIB is a misuse of the term. Different people put different meaning to the condition of a set. For example, I have received a 27-piece (...) (25 years ago, 16-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)
