That sounds like a
brag... but it's more "evidence of depravity" than brag.

   Heh.

What I do not get is why people have to post listings claiming to be the
largest.... this guy who claimed to do painstaking eBay research missed the
LAST posting claiming that, which was bigger than his, wasn't it?

It's utter silliness, if you ask me!  It might be believable if he had
said, "these sets come from the largest collection owned by a consumer" - it
would be harder to question, anyway... I could have said that about my
current slew of auctions, I don't keep count, but I know I have far more
than 333 sets... to us very depraved ones, that is, indeed, small beer.

Why not just claim "it's big" and let it go at that.

   Not very exciting...

Predictions on how it will do? Poorly. This is not the way to sell and get
the best price. He may not even get opening bid, who knows.

Of course whoever is serious about it would have to, "by all means," take
their time to investigate it's value.  Using quick mathematics:
$7,500/340 = ~$22 per set
and I see quite a few sets in the list worth more than that...

If it doesn't meet reserve (which wouldn't surprise me in the least) at
least he got his free advertising and will eventually find a buyer, without
paying eBay's ever-increasing fees.  And who knows, somebody might really
want it, and he'll be tickled pink, I'm sure!

I am not going to argue with the accuracy of his researched eBay value of
$13K for the sets sold individually because I am not going to add it up
myself, but why would he put a Buy it Now price $3,000 higher than that?!
Is anyone going to pay that kind of premium?  If I sent him an email with an
offer for "only" $14,000 right now, would he refuse?? -- more silliness.

(...) I have 29000 pieces just in one set (5542), or did, till I started using it for raw material for Milton Train Works. (but maybe I am not a consumer any more... more of a nutcase, I guess, when it comes to quantity). I think I have his size (...) (23 years ago, 6-May-01, to lugnet.market.theory)
