I just wired money to Japan. The wire transfer required the Swift number of
the bank I was sending the money to. My bank charged $30 for the privilege,
and the receiving bank also charged about $30. (This transaction was not for
Lego.)

I have on a few occasions sent US cash abroad. This is the 'free' way.
Sending some other money representation like a check or money order abroad
may tack $10 - $20 on to the transaction, according to the bank's whim.

Within the US (and now outside as well) PayPal allows 'wiring' money from a
bank account from state to state with no charge (with some restrictions --
this is a complex issue -- take a look at recent threads in market.theory
for more about PayPal's fee structure).

I don't know what my bank would charge for a wire transaction within the US,
but I bet it's not free.

Hi all !

I've been told that there are actually two ways to wire the money
from US to Europe . One is called "Swift" - it is fast (5-10 days)
but expensive (around 20 $ for  200 $) , another one  is "normal"
it goes through post and it takes about 2-3 weeks but it is free
(or has symbolic fees) !! Is that true ?

I'd be also very grateful if someone could tell me how high the
fees are for wiring the money from state to state inside US ?

Thanks !

Dejan
