hold on there... I think you misunderstood right from the start - why do you
say that those who collect sets don't build MOCs? When I say "collecting sets"
I mean I don't want to have any incomplete sets, and I want to have one of
everything. It DOESN'T mean I build all the sets as per the instructions, and
put them on a shelf, and never touch them again....

I used to think that, however, too many times I (or more commenly someone else)
found a use for a piece I would have never saved...

I can understand that, just can't do it myself. I try to buy sets only at a
bit discount....

Again, those who collect complete sets CAN build a lot of MOCs too. I'm not a
gifted builder, but look at this week's CSotW - Tom Cook collects sets, only
complete sets, and build a lot of very cool MOCs:
