How will Lego Direct Influence Prices? —Scott Arthur
How will Lego Direct Influence Prices? Just a thought: There is doubt that LD will bring the prices of some parts down quite a bit. However, will the "spare" cash in our budgets push the prices of other (non-LD) parts and sets up? Any opinions? (...) (24 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: How will Lego Direct Influence Prices? —Ray Sanders
I would wonder about a 'ripple' effect of LD. If LD starts selling parts that we could only get by buying sets and breaking then down, will those sets still move off the shelves ? An example: How much of the demand for the Target clearance of Sith (...) (24 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

(...) All of it that wasn't caused by people wanting other grey parts. :) I suspect it won't have a big effect on the clearance sale frenzy, since LD won't be able/won't want to beat clearance pricing. Where I do think it will have an effect is on (...) (24 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

(...) Maybe, but there might still be people who want 10 firbleflanges who would be willing to buy from people who had bought 100. -Phil (24 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

(...) Sorry to drift, but *where* did you get that marvelous word ("firbleflange")? I love it. It's the best one I've heard since "phlogiston." Erm. Ahem. Back to topic...I agree with both, actually--but you'll probably find an attenuation among (...) (24 years ago, 3-Mar-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: How will Lego Direct Influence Prices? —James Brown
(...) Heh... I'm not sure. Either I invented it, or I saw it somewhere. I suspect it's a spur-of-the-moment variation of filbertflange, which has the same entymological origin as grapplegrommet. An old hardware store commercial, I believe. Using (...)          Re: How will Lego Direct Influence Prices? —Philip Ogston
(...) I don't get credit for "firbleflange", although I love it too. I have been trying to get people to refer to me as "Phlogiston" though, it fits my name, but maybe not so much my character. Funny thing though, since my father was called (...) (24 years ago, 6-Mar-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: How will Lego Direct Influence Prices? —Mark Koeberl
(...) and neither will the actual value of firbleflanges. Specialty sets like the McDonalds drive thru were getting ridiculous bids, topping $60, when available through S@H for $11. However, it will be considered an overpayment only by those of us (...) (24 years ago, 13-Mar-00, to lugnet.market.theory)
