How will Lego Direct Influence Prices? Just a thought: There is doubt that LD will bring the prices of some parts down quite a bit. However, will the "spare" cash in our budgets push the prices of other (non-LD) parts and sets up? Any opinions? (...) (25 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

I would wonder about a 'ripple' effect of LD. If LD starts selling parts that we could only get by buying sets and breaking then down, will those sets still move off the shelves ? An example: How much of the demand for the Target clearance of Sith (...) (25 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

All of it that wasn't caused by people wanting other grey parts. :) I suspect it won't have a big effect on the clearance sale frenzy, since LD won't be able/won't want to beat clearance pricing. (...) Sorry to drift, but *where* did you get that marvelous word ("firbleflange")? I love it. It's the best one I've heard since "phlogiston." Erm. Ahem. Back to topic...I agree with both, actually--but you'll probably find an attenuation among (...) (25 years ago, 3-Mar-00, to lugnet.market.theory)

(...) Heh... I'm not sure. Either I invented it, or I saw it somewhere. I suspect it's a spur-of-the-moment variation of filbertflange, which has the same entymological origin as grapplegrommet.
