G'day folks,

This will be of particular interest to people in southwestern
Ontario (Windsor, London), eastern Michigan (Detroit), and
northwestern Ohio (Toledo).  A LEGO Factory Outlet store has just
recently opened near Windsor, Ontario.  Woo-HOO!  Anybody travelling
between Canada and the US via Windsor-Detroit will want to stop
in.  The details:

Bricks & Blocks Outlet
Windsor Crossing Outlet Mall
1555 Talbot Road, LaSalle
Ontario, Canada  N9H 2N2
(519) 972-5442
www.bricksandblocksoutlet.com

If you're coming in from the US, use the Bridge to cross.  When
you get off the Bridge, keep driving straight until you find
an intersection for Cousineau.  Turn right, the mall is right there.

Coming towards Windsor on the 401, follow the signs for the Bridge
to the USA, not the Tunnel.  Again look for Cousineau, and turn
left.  The Mall is right there.

It's a smallish store, but the selection is quite complete for
current stuff.  Not much in the way of old things, but they only
opened 2-3 weeks ago, too.  They do have extra train track, which
is a bonus.  There store has a few display sculptures from Denmark,
mostly a very familiar-looking giraffe...  ;]

Prices are typical outlet prices (about 10% below MSRP).  People
coming in from the USA may find the deals the best.  Some things
I noted were:

Cdn$     US$   (all taxes included)
$21.84  14.41  4515 Straight Track 9V
$21.84  14.41  4520 Curved Track 9V
$45.99  30.35  7315 Solar Explorer
$55.19  36.42  5533 Red Fury (tons of these!)
$13.79   9.10  628 large grey baseplate
$15.51  10.24  3416 Women's Team

I felt there were more kinds of soccer sets there than I normally
see in stores, but maybe they're just new sets---I don't usually
look for soccer sets.

These guys took my retirement plan out from under me as I was
fantasizing about opening a LEGO store in Windsor.  Oh well,
somebody had to do it  :]  At typical Outlet prices I don't know
how these guys can survive, but if a lot of people come over from
the USA to take advantage of the exhange rates, maybe they'll do
pretty well.  That was always my theory for opening one here
at any rate.

KDJ

(...) Thanks for that heads up! I take it that includes GST and PST? IIRC, US citizens can file for a GST (but not PST) refund as long as their purchases meet certain minimums... ++Lar (23 years ago, 8-Jun-01, to lugnet.market.shopping)

Is this an official outlet store, run by Lego? Or just a discount toy store specializing in Lego? If official Lego, I'm confused as to why it would have a name like "bricks and blocks". -Greg (...) (23 years ago, 8-Jun-01, to lugnet.market.shopping)

(...) Are there any other fans in Toledo? Am I the only one? -chris (23 years ago, 11-Jun-01, to lugnet.market.shopping)
