K-Mart went thru a big corporate clean-up. They seem less likely to do slash n'
burn price reductions. Although individual stores seem to be the exception and
do have a *few* great deals. K-Marts shelves are cleaner (on average) than I
have seen them in years.
WalMart seems slower to cut those prices (or I'm more impatient). WM does a
system wide inventory sometime around the end of January. If we don't see
significant reductions by mid February, then I don't expect to see any for quite
a while. Most WM clearance merchandise (and there is lots out there) is holding
between 20-30% off MSRP.
One WM toy dept mgr gave me some insight: its got a lot to do with the
individual store manager. Some will say "slash those prices and get it out of
here", while others take the "box up the clearance stuff and hide it in the
storeroom". Individual store managers have little to do with the corporate price
reductions however. When corporate puts a reduction thru, then it hits all the
stores (at least within a region).
Keep your eye on the 7104 Desert Skiff's (esp at K-Mart). There are tons of them
out there. Most KMs have already taken them down to $4.

| Is it the hazy mists of memory, or were the post-Xmas clearances a lot better last year? The only place I've found with decent clearance stuff is Target (so I'm glad they're building them up here now!) Everything else has been sadly lacking. Walmart (...)
