I went into the Mountain View, CA Wal-Mart sale this evening and saw a big red
Lego logo hanging from the ceiling where you enter. I was pleased to find a
wide selection of 1998 and 1999 sets at substansial discounts.
Here are the prices of the sets I purchased:
3051 Blaze Attack - 11.97
6088 Robber's Retreat - 23.97
3052 Ninja Fire Fortress - 23.97
3033 Blue Tub - 15.97
Some of the other sets I remember seeing that were on sale were:
Amazon Ancient Ruins
River Expedition
Countdown Corner
Spaceport value pack
lots of those really weak town jr. sets
a few technic sets
The largest Spaceport set was indicated to be on sale but there were none on
the shelves
Don't remember the exact prices for those, but in general the discount ranged
from around 10 to 20 percent. The fact that it was different for each set
suggested to me that Wal-Mart must actually decide on the discount for each
set based on a demand curve they derive from their sales data, but I may be
reading too much into it. I am pretty sure that they are making room for
Monday's release of the episode 1 sets.

| (...) Wow! So was 3033 for sale at 25% off then? 3033 is one of the sets that was supposedly cancelled, according to my sources -- it was 1200 pieces for $19.99 according to LEGO S@H. I know it was released to Wal*Mart for a special promotion, but (...) (25 years ago, 1-May-99, to lugnet.market.shopping)

| I checked Monday, and the Mt View Walmart has ZERO, ZIP, NADA Star Wars Lego at all (and the Mt View Target is almost bare). I ended up buying all of mine at the Sunnyvale TRU and Milpitas Target. (...) (25 years ago, 6-May-99, to lugnet.market.shopping)
