You know there was a time, not too long ago when I could reasonably expect
to buy about $3-5,000 in clearance Lego from Target without much effort.
It's impossible to do that these days, I'm guessing because of increased
awareness of the clearance. This year, I made a more concerted effort to
hit the sales, and spent about $1,200. Some of my notable finds:
- 1 opened Republic Gunship. It was missing a couple of bags, but the
figures were all there and it was about $22.
- 1 U.S. National Team Cup Edition - seems horribly overpriced at $75, but
for $18.74, it's a great deal.
- 2 Forbidden Corridors (4706) - would love to trade one for a Hagrid's Hut
if anyone is interested.
- One Target had an entire endcap of Harry Potter sets that were not moved
to the clearance section. Made out like a bandit there. Unfortunately, the
HP sets on clearance this year were the dregs of the line (e.g. Final
Challenge, Sorting Hat, Chamber of the Winged Keys, etc.)
- 3 different Spybotics sets at one Target at $15 each.
It seemed that as the day progressed, there was less and less Lego at each
Target I visited. In the end (around 7 PM), I was only finding 2-3 sets of
any clearanced stuff at each Target I visited. But, I was able to
completely fill my car up with stuff, to the point where I could not see
adequately to lane change on the freeway.

| I'm in the Atlanta area. Cleared out Gainesville and Cumming, and checked Alpharetta to discover it cleared out. I did pick up the Creator Special Edition game for 75% off. $7.50 was too good to pass up! George "David W. Speck" <dwspeck@us.ibm.com> (...) (22 years ago, 16-Jan-03, to lugnet.market.shopping)
