The only problem with just making this an event based commodity is the
simple fact that some of us don't have the liberty of being even remotely
close to most events.  I've been trying to get something started in Arkansas
for over a year now...Not going to happen anytime soon, and I don't feel
like driving up to 8 hours just to look at a box of Lrgo pieces I could
probably buy on eBay anyway.

As for what's fair in love and jambalaya...Its hard to say, unless we (as
jambalayans) could come up with some pricing equality formula for each
transaction.  It would definitely be time consuming to construct and put
into effect, but it keeps the honest people fair.

We could put a point system on the pieces instead of prices if we wanted to
also.  A black 1x16 technic beam would, of course, have a higher point value
than a 24t gear.

After the initial headaches of set up, I think everything else would end up
going smoother than before; at least in THAT aspect of it.

The problem I noticed was shipping times.  It took my box over a year to
make a round trip through about 10 people.  I feel that was entirely too
long, and some boxes have been "lost" in shipping...More like stolen if you
ask me.  My solution to that was to request insurance for the package and
declare a value of the contents.  That way, if it gets lost, then there will
be proof of delivery, tracking, etc. (someone to point the finger
at...officially)

These are just a couple of my ideas.  I really want jambalaya to continue
into the future, just in a more structured way as it has been.  Please give
me your views on the above thoughts.

(...) Your last sentence spells the problem with Jambalaya. Most of the stuff which goes into the boxes are easy to get on eBay or Brickbay, with a known cost and often lower shipping. Plus, you don't have to strain to figure out what a fair trade (...) (23 years ago, 8-Aug-01, to lugnet.market.jambalaya)

(...) I've personally written off Jambalaya. I think it was a neat idea, and it was mostly fun participating, but it was hard to make good trades and feel like it was worthwhile. I think a Jambalaya box going from event to event might work out where (...) (23 years ago, 26-Jul-01, to lugnet.market.jambalaya)
