and whatnot? Or will it depress the market to nearly equal values?

The following is all my speculation, so I'm saying so ahead of time,
instead of prefacing every sentence with "My guess is...".

We'll see the price drop, but not all the way.  It's all about supply
and demand.  Many (perhaps most) of the people willing to pay the
currently going rate for the G.I. are interested in the set as a
collectible item, not for the parts.  And many/most of those (type of)
people will still want the original set, not a rerelease.  So there will
still be demand for the original version.

Of course, as the demand becomes even more collectibility-based, the
best prices will go to true MISB offerings.  Sets that are in some way
less desirable -- opened, missing the box and/or the instructions, in
'used' condition, or even missing a few pieces -- will see the worst
price decline, probably going for about the same price as the rerelease
version (ie, somewhere between $20 and $30).

My interest is simply in having the set. Originalty has little to do with
it...but what about others?

I think there's a continuum of interests.  Just like the range between
builders and collectors.  I have a slight desire to own the original
set, but I'd rather spend that amount of money on new or cheaper sets.
More LEGO for the buck, y'know.
