Thanks for your input John.
I am in a weird position. I am looking for an appraisal, not for insurance
value, but for a fair value.
I believe that because I am not in a selling position, that an overall
collection has a different value than individual sets.
I.E. If I want to sell my entire collection on eBay as one lot, I would have way
less money than set by set.
Also 90% of my sets are for pieces only to build MOCs, therefore, once open and
incomplete, the value drops drastically. And of course, even if I keep the box
for storage and the instructions, it would be insane to try to rebuild all the
models. I even sold lots of pieces individually, and kept only the one I was
interested in...
That is why I would like to find a way to appraise it as a entire collection.
It seems that the weight might be the closest thing to do.
And one point which seems important to me is hat I don't think that some of my
sets should be appraised for more than what I actually paid for.
I sold a fair amount on eBay and Blink... Once a set was damaged in the mail. I
had insurance on it. I showed the Blink sale, but it was refused as the real
value of the set. I had to show the receipt of what I paid for... and they were
willing to reimbourse that last amount only.
I.E. if I pay $10 for a set and resell it for $30, the insurance value is $10.
Hard call for sure.
