To all interested:

I know the topic of Insurance has been bantered about here and there.  But
it wasn't until after I had completed my own inventory that I realized that
I had a nice sum of money invested into this hobby.  So I decided to talk to
my insurance agent about how best to insure my collection.  For the record,
My insurance company is Nationwide and I currently have replacement renter's
insurance with them.

The agent informed me that Nationwide no longer will insure collectibles,
such as Lego and toys, as they do Fine art.  So in order to cover my
collection, I would have to increase the general protection amount to cover
the cost of my collection.  I asked if there was anything I needed to
provide proof of value/ownership.  He told me to have as much of a detailed
list as possible of my collection and any major documents documenting the
cost.  Since I am most worried about fire/destruction of my collection and
the destruction would most likely destroy the house and thus the major
documents, I decided to burn a copy of my inventory and some photos of my
collection onto a Cd and give the Cd to my insurance agent to hold.

Before I talked to my insurance agent, I did some digging on the web and
found the following company that would insure my collection.  The only
problem is they currently do not have a license to sell insurance in Pa.

I would imagine that Homeowner's insurance could be expanded the same as was
my renter's insurance so when it comes time to buy a house I should still be
covered. But if not, hopefully by then this company or perhaps another will
be able to offer me the protection I need.

There's my 2 cents to add to this discussion, I hopes it help someone.

Hi all. This is my first post to the appraisal area, as I am confident someone out there would have an answer to my question. A recent discussion in the Star Wars group got me thinking about how much money I've actually invested in bricks. The (...) (23 years ago, 12-Dec-01, to lugnet.market.appraisal)
