Anyone who want's broken down data from my database on set prices for a
particular set feel free to email me.  You can interpolate the data as you
wish and see the range in prices for a given set.  I will also give you my
interpolation based on my recordings.  This database is from the last 6
months.  Unfortunately the problems that are being discussed are unavoidable
unless you physically read each lot, which I do.  It is very time consuming.
Also to be considered is translating foreign auctions and recording that
data as well.  There is no legal ramifications to recording this data
because it is public domain.

Here is a company that is doing the automatic thing for sportscards pricing:
www.reallegends.com

The problem I found with their pricing is the same as you are discussing in
that you cannot assume my the title the grade, etc of the item.

On a similar subject, can we all come up with a definitive titling for Lego
parts?  Or have we done this already and if so where is it.  The normal
stuff is obvious, ie plate, cone, brick.  It is the other zillion pieces
that get muddled.  I am tracking prices for parts as best I can for future
use and it is really tough.  Also why do people not refer to the parts
official Part number printed on it?  Wouldn't that make it easier?

Thanks,
Steve.

(...) Yeah, the mining issue is definitely a touchy one. If it were being done for profit I suppose that the corporations would definitely take exception. I had considered archiving the complete auction page, but decided against it since it would (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.market.appraisal)
