On Thu, 20 Apr 2000 23:08:41 GMT, Col uttered the following profundities...
Beatties in Winchester has closed too - I don't remember seeing any 'closing
down' notices, they just seem to have packed up and left. I had noticed a
general drop in stock levels (of everything, not just Lego) but I had
assumed they were making space for new lines or summer toys. This closure
means there is now only one shop that I can think of that sells Lego in
Winchester - a 'local' toy shop that is always a bit overpriced - plus
Argos, which means a trip to TRU in Southampton if I want to buy any Lego.
tsk.

I heard from a Beatties employee yesterday that all the Beatties shops
in Scotland have been sold off. I heard from someone else that this was
to Hamleys?? Seems unlikely, but who knows.

The Beatties guy also said that the English shops were not yet sold, but
were heading for closure unless profits / sales improved. Anyone else
heard anything?

There was an article in Metro (Paper for commuters) last week.
Heavy losses, and as such some closures were to occur. Don't
remember if it was shutting down completely, but....
