Went shopping today. Oh how I hate Saturday shopping.....

Having seen the Argos post for the 30%? off tow truck, went
for that first. Had one left, it was a return or display
model. So I didn't take it! All of the stickers had been
applied, and who knows how much  might have been missing.
Still, it gave me a little bit more money to spend for the
next shop I was to visit........

Beattie's in High Wycombe is the place to go!
They have loads of the Technic yellow sub for 15 quid! They
had about 20 left (I only bought 2). They also had about 25
of the FOS Technic set, as well, for 20 quid. 2 8277 XXL
model sets for 20 quid. Still have a few (6) of the big
Explorien ships for 30 quid. Nothing else on sale. :o(
Most of the '99 sets they had are now gone, and all that
are left are the little sets. Space Port, except for the
smaller sets, appears to have sold out!!!!! The Adventurer's
blimp set, surprisingly, is all gone. The biggest one of those
left is the smallest containing a spider. A fair amount of
Slum, though nothing too big.
They had 3 new Technic sets. I think I will pass. Not having
a catalogue yet, renders me unable to tell you the numbers!
They are the ones that are combinable, for even worse looking
models, cost 14.99 each. They also had Ninja! Most of the
1998 sets, plus one 1999 one, the 5 figure pack(£5.99). I
have most of the smaller ones already, from trips to the
States. The biggest one costs 60 quid! There were no Slizers
there or anywhere else! They had a bumper supply of new
catalogues, too. By new I mean the new Znap-covered 1998 ones.
No sign yet of 1999 ones. :o( I was quite surprised that I
walked out of their having only spent 30 quid. I may go back
for more subs. Don't want the FOS sets, mainly because I have
too many FOS thingies. But those subs.......BTW their tow
truck still costs 75 quid. They also have a dozen 6899's, but
at £8.49, not worth it.

Woolies. Nothing new there, they still have 8437 for 15 quid.

Tesco High Wycombe Centre. They have 3041 Freestyle bucket
for 11.99. (Cheaper than the Tesco near work, where they are
still 13.99). Even reduced from 20 quid, 12 quid is still
far too expensive to be worth it. As they don't appear to be
shifting at even that price, further reductions may be on the
horizon, hopefully!!! They had loads of shelf space cleared
for the arrival of some of the 1999 Technic sets and Slizers,
though no prices displayed. Their 4 copies of that Islanders
set, and all of the 6899 Explorien sets have all gone. At £20,
and £5 respectively, I suppose I am not that surprised.

I went to TRU Hayes for lunch on Friday (and not to buy Lego!!).
They still have only 1998 sets there. Nothing whatsoever
on sale. Playmobil still take up about a 1/3 of the Lego
shelf space. Their January sale adverts all over the place
don't do enough to cover up the fact that they have actually
raised the price on a few items! A pound here, a pound there.
Probably in preparation for a Lego sale, to make the prices
seem cheaper. I had forgotten, they still have a few of those
UFO mid-sized sets for 15 pounds. I will hold out for a
further reduction. And if there isn't, and I miss out, so
what, I don't like the set anyway.

(...) Ooops! I knew that there was something I forgot to post :) Beatties in Glasgow have these sets at the same prices - or at least they did last week. I thought the prices were pretty spunky - specially as you get a nice pneumatic air-tank with (...) (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.loc.uk)
