I agree, and I'm ready for it. But are the banks also ? In my opinion, it
should be made possible to transfer money by giro withoud any fees to any
place in the eurozone. Banks will have considerably lest costs when they
stop handeling all those different currencies, and they earn enought money
from the day interests they recieve from holding back transfers a few days
(See their huge profits). But despite this, in the last year banks have been
trying to make up phoney fees and costs as "compensation" for the change
fees they are going to loose. I sure hope the European Goverment succeeds in
stopping them.
Only a pitty those U.S. citizins are not joining us, those dull notes could
use a restyling job :-) I remember that in the early 70th we Dutch where one
of the first countries having very colorfull banknotes, and visiting
North-americans changing Dollars for Guilders where always higly amazed when
they recieved back someting looking like "Monopoly money" to them, in return
of their trustworthy green ones.
Greetings, M. Moolhuysen.
