I like Lego Canada, but for years I've been harping that the US S@H offers
many sets that are not available here.  But I now realize that it's a two
way street in that there are ones available in Canada that are out of stock
south.
My big fear is _duty_.  I bought a Dacta vehicle set from Kaplan.  The set
was about $60CDN and I was hit with $15 for duty and processing.

Yep. The owner of a local toystore told me the same thing a while back.

Duty actually should not be a problem - I believe there is no actual
_duty_ on toys, judging from my experience getting things from the US.
What there IS, is GST - and the $5 per package service charge that
Canada Post charges for collecting it. It's possible that lego might be
able to arrrange to collect the GST so that Canada Post doesn't -
American magazines collect the GST on subscriptions so we don't pay it
every time one arrives in the mail.

It will also make delivery time considerably longer.

The only good thing I can think of is that S@H Canada might have a
blow-out sale at the end of the year before they move. After all, they
won't want to move lots of stock down to Enfield, right? Well, we can
hope!

Hi, I hope that Lego will copy other US mail order firms and charge the GST upfront, so that we won't be charged the $5.00 handling fee that the post office charges. (Or the $15 fee that the other shippers charge.) It is interesting to hear that (...) (25 years ago, 20-Jul-99, to lugnet.loc.ca)
