G'day,

Well, there's at least one person out your way, but he doesn't usually
appear on lugnet till late at night, so he probably won't reply to this till
tonight/tomorrow night.

The next LegOz in Melbourne is LegOz 2000.8 on October 8.[unless the SLUGS
are having one before then :) ] Hopefully we'll be able to arrange some
transport so you get out there again [It'll be at Craigieburn again, unless
someone else wants to volunteer to host it :) ] At the least, there is
public transport nearby, and I could always drive you to/from Broadmeadows
station if no-one else can get you out there.

[And if there's any other Melbourne-ites out there who wanted to attend but
didn't have the transport, sing out, and I'm sure something can be arranged.
I'd hate to be preventing people from coming just because of the venue.]

David,

Thanks for the info!! I'm mostly looking for Technics type
stuff - its a bummer
that supplement sets arent available anymore.

What's Lego Direct? Is that just a US thing? Is it likely to
come to Oz anytime
soon? Now that I've re-found all my old Lego, I cant wait to
get back into
building stuff!!

And are there any user-groups in the Melbourne area? I saw
some messages about
LegOz (in Craigieburn I think?) but unfortunately I dont have
a car, and I'm on
the other side of town (Chadstone).

Thanks again!

ROSCO

Hi Ross,

Welcome to lugnet.loc.au !!

On a day to day basis, Big W is the best place for Lego, if • there's one near
you; sets are usually 10% less than elsewhere, and old stock • can go on sale
for 40-60% off. Target's just had a 25% off sale, and some • sets were ~70% off.
Kmart and TRU usually sell sets for around RRP, sometimes a • bit less, although
there are some sets that are consistently on sale for a • large discount. TRU
also has the best range of sets.

Myer/Grace Bros and DJs are usually more expensive; they're • only really worth
visiting when there's a clearance or sale, but they do have • the largest sets
and a good range of Technic. Toyworlds (and other smaller • stores) can be good
for older sets, which are often on sale. Garage sales, • Trading Post, and
classified ads can be a good pointer to cheap older sets (or • a messy heap of
well-chewed old bricks).

As far as I know, Lego only has mail-order in Australia for • some technic and
train sets. Supplement packs aren't available anymore. We're • all waiting to
see if Lego Direct makes it across the Pacific, and in what form.

hope that helps,
Dave

Benjamin, (...) His boss probably watches closer than mine ;-) (...) I havent really got any creations to show anyone yet, but I'd like to check out what other people are doing anyway, (and just meet some other lego fans). Thanks ROSCO (24 years ago, 10-Aug-00, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.org.au)
