Get a US$ money order(Western Union) from the local Post Office.
I get charged $8 AUD plus like Richard said the exchange • rate will probably
favour them, but that's how they make money.
$10 US is not much at all for using Lugnet, if you ask me • (I sent more).
What someone should do is organise all those who haven't • joined and get them
all to pay a nominated person (Deidre, BenW ?) and throw in • some extra for
their share of the US$ money order, this way only one money
order needs to
go.

I would be happy to do it, but maybe someone who hasn't • joined can be the
organiser, if the former, let mw know.

Does Todd look after Lugnet in his spare time?(WOW!) This is • by far the best
forum I've ever seen. I wish i could model a few things that • would be handy
for my work based on something like Lugnet.

I haven't signed up yet, but will do soon, and I guess if • anyone else wants to
chip in with me then thats fine. We'll just split the cost • of the money order,
and each person just nominates how much they want to donate.

Perhaps we can make it out as a donation from LegOz? [1]

Good on you Santosh,
All those non-financial posters and lurkers tee up some
membership fees with
Santosh. US$10 is not much is it, what could you get for that, a 7111.
Todd has created lugnet.org.au now as well, and think of all
the money you
have saved from sale notices posted on Lugnet. (Just don't
think of what you
spent though).

Yet another good reason for having organisers in each state for LegOz. They
can help by handling this sort of thing, and sending the money to whoever
will be posting it overseas. [1]

Also a thought on LegOz organisation...instead of states, how about regions:
QLD and NT => northern
NSW and ACT => Central
Tas and Vic => Southern
WA and SA => Western
NZ and other countries in region => Eastern

This way, those in states/countries without a large number of members are
still included without having their state/country being classed as a
different state [eg, Tasmanians seem to have this dislike of being grouped
under or grouped as Victorians...most unreasonable of them ] and should the
membership there increase, then they can break away to form their own group.
[2]

[1] It might also be worth doing a similar thing for auctions/sales where
more than 1 LegOz member wins items and to have the entire LegOz winnings
sent to one member who can then distribute the sets to the successful
bidders, saving a considerable amount on international postage for all
winners/buyers. [postage amounts determined proportionally, based on
individual amounts quoted, so someone quoted $5 US won't end up paying the
same as someone quoted at $25 US]

[2] I'd be thinking that a Decision on the LegOz subgroups may be in order,
both so we can get events organisers selected for the groups [some groups
may require more than one...ie Eastern in above suggested groups] and so
that when we approach LA we have some form of structure, which should assist
us in having LA take us seriously. After all, a company like LA will look
more favourably on [and be of more assistance to ] an organised group/club
than they would on a loose group of people with a shared interest like we
currently would appear. And with Santosh' letter currently under
creation/refinement, it would be good if we could settle this soon.[3]

[3] So, we need a vote on how we're going to organise the group. Probably
the easiest way to do this would be for anyone in a member country [Aus, NZ,
PNG, and any of the island countries in this area] to post their idea of how
we should be organised by Monday [allowing for those people who lurk/only
use lugnet on weekends to contribute][consider the above plan as my
submission], and then all those in member countries vote next week on which
of the proposed structures they prefer over the following 7 days [we'll have
to decide on how voting is to be conducted...I'd say post votes to the
groups, but others may prefer a private vote.] the members of each group at
the end of this time can then decide amongst themselves who will be in
charge of organising/coordinating events for the group, and acting as a
local middle-person for [1] them [may or may not be the same person].

We'll also have to have a confirmed Wordsmith to handle the groups
correspondance with LA [Santosh seems to be doing a good job here, so I'd
say that if he has no complaints to leave the job with him.]

(...) I like this structure, makes very good sense to me. Although I'd think NSW and ACT might be better called the Eastern zoning and NZ etc something else (not sure what, Oceania? Offshore? Other? :)). Feel free to disagree. Deidre drb@tasmail.com (24 years ago, 28-Jun-00, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.org.au, lugnet.general, lugnet.loc.nz)

(...) regions: (...) I think this might be a slightly heavy-weight organisation for the numbers of people involved! For example, I don't there are enough Qlders and NTers for a separate Northern group. Also, unless people live within 1-2 hours (...)
