In the olden days (2 years ago) there was a "Model Shop" near Miniland that
had a wide variety of loose bulk bricks for sale, but I havn't seen it
opened since (please tell me if it's open when you're there).  You also used
to be able to find a few sets from 3-4 years back with a deep discount
attached--it was nice to pick up a $6 set for a buck to send the kids into
bonus-land.  Hope those days return soon.

My wife and I went LLCA back in September of 2001 (a few weeks after 9-11).  I
think we were there on a Wednesday afternoon.  We walked into the Model Shop,
saw the bulk bricks on display & asked a member of staff there as to when did
they open the little shop up to sell parts.  We were told that during the
summer hours, the shop was open Thursday & the weekend.  We were told about
the 1 hour 'shopping pass', so we thought to ourselves we'd come back tomorrow
before heading back down to San Diego.

On Thursday, we came back, parked and asked about getting a shopping pass &
told them that we'll be going back to the Model Shop -- we were given a 1 1/2
hr shopping pass because the shop was too far from the front gates -- normally
people shop in the Big Shop.  We arrive at the Model Shop after some jogging,
then found out it wasn't opened!  We were a little mad & disappointed.  Asked
the staff about it, explained that we were told the shop would be opened that
day & that we were there on a shopping pass & didn't want to go home (to
Ohio) empty handed if possible.

He went off, talked to his manager & came back to say that the front desk was
sending back some one to open up the shop for us & that they had extended our
pass because of the inconvience!  About 20 minutes later, the girl arrived &
sold us our bulk bricks!  The selection wasn't that exciting at the time --
orange and brown bricks & some trans-yellow slopes -- but it was the idea the
LEGO was willing to bend over backwards for us that made the trip for us!  The
best customer servive I've seen in years!

...I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the Model Shop was also
selling a mini-statue of a Bionicle mask (blue or green was your choice);
similar to the Chirstmas box they did a few years back -- a bunch of bricks &
plates & a rough set of instructions in a plastic bag.  Eventhough I don't like
the Bionicle line, I bought one for the green plates!  I can take pictures if
anyone is interested...

Upon leaving LLCA, we had to check in with Customer Service so they didn't
charge us for a full day's admission.  We told the guy there we saw that they
were setting up for Brick-or-Treat & I asked him if we could get a
Brick-or-Treat Duplo brick from either 2000 or 2001 before leaving.  He went
off, looked around & couldn't find one, but he did offer us one for the Technic
Roller Coaster & the LOM exhibit.  He took my name & address down and told me
that when Brick-or-Treat happened, he'd try sending me a brick.

About a month later, both bricks from 2000 & 2001 arrived in the mail!  -- it
also came with candy, but that was my wife's treat.  :)  My only regret is that
I didn't take his name down to send back a Thank You card.  Many thanks LLCA,
if you're listening!  Oh, and we'll be back in October!
