Lego To Close Molding, Processing at Enfield, CT plant

ENFIELD, Conn. (AP) -- Toymaker Lego Systems Inc. said Monday it would close its molding and processing operations in Connecticut as part of a global restructuring. (...) Thanks for the article, great info! Maybe this means a price break is coming. Yeah....right! Seriously though, if someone wanted to write a letter to Lego Big Wigs that would get noticed, what should he do? Any suggestions? Bill (26 years ago, 28-Nov-00, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

I want to be the first to congratulate TLC on its shrewd marketing techniques. Obviously more computer-based sets, more varied merchandise, expansion of amusement parks, and juniorization have all been a resounding success!!! There is clearly no (...)   Re: Lego To Close Molding, Processing at Enfield, CT plant

(...) (URL) seem to mention the specifics of the restructuring though, since it doesn't even mention Enfield's plant... any further news now that it's Tuesday? (And probably late afternoon in Denmark already) DaveE (26 years ago, 28-Nov-00, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

(...) Yike's!!! What does that mean for 3033 Tubs? Don't those come from Enfield? I can't see those being sold if they have to import them! (...) From a fan POV this should scare the pants off you! That is a lot of money and can't be a good thing. I (...) (26 years ago, 28-Nov-00, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Lego To Close Molding, Processing at Enfield, CT plant

(...) I think this is good news overall. Especially this part: What did we learn? First of all, we have learned that we must run a healthy business with focus on healthy growth. This means that our important business area, Play Materials, must also (...) (26 years ago, 28-Nov-00, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Lego To Close Molding, Processing at Enfield, CT plant

(...) On the speculatively plus side, didn't we (LUGNet at large) identify a potential problem with economic competition between bulk sales of bricks and the brick tubs themselves? Perhaps if the 3033 is discontinued TLC will be able to devote more (...) (26 years ago, 28-Nov-00, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Lego To Close Molding, Processing at Enfield, CT plant

(...) It will not make much of a difference. I don't know how many machines Enfield has, but I would suspect less than 25 injection molding machines (if they are laying off 100 people...) The cost of shipping Lego would not be very high, at least, (...) (26 years ago, 28-Nov-00, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Lego To Close Molding, Processing at Enfield, CT plant

(...) Really! I would think that 100 people (per shift) could support 3-400 molding machines. The machines don't need full time attendants. Do we have an industrial engineer from the plastics industry in the house? I'm guessing. ++Lar (26 years ago, 28-Nov-00, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

Re: Lego To Close Molding, Processing at Enfield, CT plant

One thing this will do is make it a LOT more difficult for groups to (...) (26 years ago, 28-Nov-00, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.general)

(...) Eh, Swedes, Danes, they're really just the same.   Re: Lego To Close Molding, Processing at Enfield, CT plant
