Lately, I’ve been reading and posting a lot less, and this week I finally admitted something to myself:

I hate LUGNET now.

That’s right, the place I and many others found as a place to share ideas and talk about the brick has become a source of anger and frustration for me. I shouldn’t have to tell anyone why; look through any of the newsgroups’ posts within the last year and you’ll find nothing but bickering, backbiting, and a general lack of everything I used to like about this place. Frankly, I can’t stand to read most of the tripe that gets posted anymore, and it’s become too daunting a task to dig through it for the real content. It seems like the only people left talking about what should be a fulfilling hobby are the ones who hate it.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s been turned off by this change, and I’m sure many others more optimistic (or stubborn) than myself will hold out longer, but I can’t handle it any more. Don’t get me wrong; I’ll still be building, and I’ll still love to look at other people’s work, but I just won’t be doing it through this particular community until I see a reason to come back.

Here here... Although I plan on hanging around and having a look in on LUGNET every so often, I have to agree with you about the mood shift seen over the last year or so. I too like to come here to see others ideas and MOCS. But this constant ranting and bickering is getting excessive... hint:colour change.. I guess that is what you get with an open forum and freedom of speech. Well, here is my bit - have a chill pill, and start building more MOC’s so we can all see them! Else, how about selling your Lego to the rest of us...

For the record - I could care less about colour changes. The more the merrier. As for letters to the Lego CEO - here is one I would sign. For me it would start something like this:

“Thanks for providing me with a hobby that has lasted me for over 25 years (and more to come)... ...for always giving me new ideas and inspiration.. ...for providing a toy that will last, is durable, and does not get played with for a month and then find its way into the landfill... ...thanks for evolving the block with studless technology,... ..that is still compatible with Lego from the past... ...oh, and thanks for the NEW COLOURS too!..... etc... Thanks Lego!”

Now, let me do my part to try to bring things back to what I believe others would would want to be here for: My MOC’s (yes, it’s a self-plug): http://www.astolfo.com.

(As much as I hate big dramatic "Look at me, I quit" posts, I truly feel the need to say this, not to bring attention to myself, but to get this off my chest.) When I was in high school (and all through college, for that matter), LUGNET was around (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-05, to lugnet.general, FTX)
