"Think calmly?" You obviously don't know who you're dealing with here! 8^)

Perhaps the doom and gloom *has* been a bit overstated. I think the whole
situation strikes a number of nerves at once:
1. "They didn't check with us first." Admittedly, it's not realistic to expect
a billion-dollar company to solicit our approval for every change of policy, but
the color change seems, to some of us, like the exact kind of change that TLG
*would* run by AFOL's first, since AFOL's are, in a way, the best longitudinal
sampling group available to TLG. TLG's choice not even to ask for any feedback
seemed like a kind of betrayal of the trust that's been built over the past few
years.
2. "I don't like the colors." Well, this is personal preference, of course. I
don't mind the colors, since my palette already includes a range of non-LEGO
colors. However, considering the many thousands of dollars that people have
invested in their collections, the sudden obsolescence of their grays and browns
can come as quite a blow.
3. "I smell a corporate rat." I'm all for companies making a profit, and I
don't even pretend that the particulars are any of my business. But when a
company's methods seem suspect and appear to serve no purpose other than padding
the bottom line, then loyal, longterm fans of the company can be expected to cry
foul.
There are dozens of other reasons, of course, but these generally describe the
sentiments expressed here on LUGNET. Sure, we can all make do with the new
colors, and we can all still have fun with our collections regardless of the
color choices made by TLG.
Dave!

| (...) Dave, thanks for your reply. Please calmly think about this: First: Yes, imagination in my opinion DOES trump color... and shape, and minifig realism, and so on. Pieces + imagination = fun. I played with green army men who had maybe five (...) (21 years ago, 8-May-04, to lugnet.general)
