I'd prefer 1x1 tiles over 2x2.  You can always create 2x2 or even 3x3
tile patterns if you want to with the 1x1s.  You can fill odd-length
spaces as well, something you can't do with the 2x2s.
  Not only can you tile all the floors, you can cover ALL the studs,
making a model that looks like it was built by an architect (see
The_World_of_LEGO_Toys, a book I unfortunately don't own.)
