Can we see the official LEGO color palette? It must be documented somewhere. Peeron has their unofficial color palette, LUGNET has a page on it (although somewhat incomplete), too.

What does the official LEGO color guide look like? Maybe that would show us why these colors just had to be changed...

The Peeron page you referenced is the official palette (although incomplete). See this post for details.

Uhhhhhh . . . if there are like 100 + colors, what are we angry about?? Sure, only, say, two and an half dozen are produced at any given time, but that’s alot. I think it should be okay to alter four or so, it won’t totally bring down a line that has been running for 30+ years. Besides, its a hobby. An addictive one, yes, but a hobby. Look at Warhammer: they change all the models of one race every few years, and no one really gives a hoot. Don’t be so finatical that you loose your voice in the community altogether.

In fact, a well dispersed variety of varying colors shades will make models look more real, and landscapes more dynamic. You all forget that colors are influenced by the colors that they reside next to. The new brown will look browner is placed next to old brown, and oranger if placed next to blue or orange. Not to mention that digital cameras work in such a way that an image’s color will be distorted and your own Monitor will distort the colors on it. If your contrast is higher, then the new and old light grays will look farther apart than they are. There an unlimited number of so called “artifacts” and “distirtions” that multiple filtering of images through several systems will produce. Don’t pass judgment so quickly until you’ve truly explored the possibilities with slightly veried shades. I promise you that if you use them correctly, the new colors will give models a much more dynamic and artistic mood and feel.

(...) Yes, it's a big deal. LEGO has been a rock. The bricks today still mate with the bricks that say PAT PENDING. The 1st red is today's red. Change for the sake of growth is good. Change for the sake of change is very bad. They can come up with (...) (21 years ago, 20-Nov-03, to lugnet.general, FTX)

(...) The Peeron page is official? Cool! Now, is someone willing to organize it in such a way that it shows why these colors needed to be changed? Wait, that didn't quite sound right. Try again: It's great that these are 'official'. But a long (...) (21 years ago, 20-Nov-03, to lugnet.general, FTX)
