I always thought that the largest LEGO set box was the 6991 Monorail
Transport Base.  But we just bought a copy of an old SCALA set -- the 3290
family house.  I don't have the 6991 box handy to measure for comparison,
but here are the box measurements for 3290:

   In U.S.:    24 7/8" x 19 1/4" x 6 1/2"
   In Metric:  63 cm x 49 cm x 16.5 cm

Zoiks!

Yup. Santa got my daughter one of those for Christmas a while back. It took practically the entire roll of wrapping paper....er, I'm *guessing*, of course;-) -John (...) (25 years ago, 25-May-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) I measure (roughly) the 6991 box to be: 25 1/4" x 18 1/2" x 4 1/4". Only one dimension larger than the 3290, and much smaller in terms of volume. (...) Indeed! John C. (25 years ago, 25-May-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) 6991 is a tiny box! I reckon that 6990 and 6399 Monorails were bigger - when I got mine in the post (6991) I thought how small it looked. Can you verify this? I have train 7740 - that's big. (25 years ago, 28-May-99, to lugnet.general)
