I've had to destroy some black friction pins to remove them from beams in • sets
which have been left together for years, but thats different 8?)

I'd say the ball/socket joints used in technic steering (eg 8466) are fairly
difficult to separate from the steering arms. Also the centre (hub) pieces • in
the 8880 http://peeron.com/inv/parts/2999 are held fairly tight in the • wheels.
Removing a technic axle pin http://peeron.com/inv/parts/3749 from a 8t gear • can
be pretty frustrating sometimes, too.

I'm with Ross. Technics parts are the worst offenders, and the good ol' brick
separator is no help.

My worst experience was disassembling the 8480 Space Shuttle, which has one
step which did not appear to be reversible (an axle pushed into a place from
where it was not possible to push from the opposing direction).

I ended up resorting to sheer brute force to stretch the whole structure until
something gave (and hopefully didn't break in the process). Given that I had
never experienced this situation before (an unreversible step), I thought
maybe I'd made a mistake in following the instructions (the Space Shuttle is a
difficult build, one of the worst for making mistakes with). However, others
have reported the same problem, so I think it wasn't just my own stupidity:

My most common offender is a Technics axle down one of those flexible tubes,
often those tubes just don't want to come off. I usually soak these in a bit
of water and dishwashing liquid to get some lubrication.
