For books, there is almost no end to U-boat books out there--
although if you want a very general series with line drawings
the Squadron-Signal publications give you an accessible start.
However, if you are considering an I-boat, "F-boat" (US), X-
craft, or a British E-class, that may require a bit more digging
than S-S may satisfy. Unfortunately I consider submarines to
be terribly unsporting, so I stick to my "skimmers" in terms
of deep knowledge of the reference material.
However, someone has done a slightly compressed WWII German
fleet boat--Carl Geatrix (sp). It was absolutely magnificent,
and it appeared in .build and .general, I believe. It's easily
the best LEGO submarine I've ever seen (and yes, I've seen quite
a few).
