Thanks Kevin,

I am always glad to help other AFOL's unravel the mystery of old LEGO!  One other
note on this one, in Europe, the spare parts boxes (erzatzteile in German) that the
non-chain toy stores carry probably still have some of these lamps available.  I bet
that there might be some European AFOLs that might have seen some of these recently,
and may even be able to get a spare lamp for you.

Europe (especially Germany) still has an enormous supply of old and rare LEGO in
great condition, both in toy stores, and personal collections.  In North America,
retailers dump their old toy stock within a few years, and the oldest LEGO available
is probably from the early 90's.  But as Europe gets more chain stores, and the
mom-and-pop small toy stores over there are closing because the people are retiring
or dying off, the retailers (and the LEGO selection) over there are becoming more
like those in North America.

Right on, Gary! My brick does have ruffled walls on the inside. Your year

Looking up Lightbrick on Lugnet didn't show bricks that late, only the 1958
set #248. The two later bricks don't show under a "lightbrick" search: 485
is "eletrical brick" & 985 is "lampbrick". Neither one showed under a
"light" search either.

I appreciate the answer & the tidbit of Lego History. Your history posts are
always fascinating reading.
Thanks, Kevin

If that brick has a "ruffled" look to the 4 "wall" brick surface (can't remember
if the texture is on the inside or outside) then it indeed is a #245.
