I mainly shop *without* my children, specially when I'm out of town looking
for some old set in some hopefully forgotten minor shop (here in Italy there
still are some). In those kind of shops you not only have to face the
cashier, but frequently the shop owner himself who absolutely wants to help
you. The worst thing being that if he smells you're a collector and give
some sets a particular value, he/she asks you for a very high price (sets
are usually not priced in those shops).
For this reasons when I'm out of my area I usually lie a lot :-) I start
saying I'm looking for some Lego for my kids, and lie about their age and
gender saying my two sons are 9 and 13. This age range gives me the chance
to look for my favourite themes: technic & trains. Then I explain they're
*very* fond of Lego and already have tons of sets, so I'm looking for some
possibly old, off-catalog set.
This usually does the trick. But it may lead to some embarassing sistuations
when you find some of those rare gold mine shops and buy 1000$ of Lego :-)
Or when you simply want to buy 3 copies of the same sets :-)))

| (...) <snipped> I'm 28, about mid-range for lugnetters from what I've seen. I've been following the thread "when does it become embarrassing to buy lego" and when my little boy came out with that statement I completely lost it, laughed for ages, as (...)
