Hi Ken,

For some reason, I cannot view either of your web locations.  They come back with
an error message.
But here's the dirt on the 700 series of sets.

The were first produced in 1957, and production continued until 1964.  The sets in
the 700 series are:
wooden box set 700 (with contents), wooden box set 700 (without contents), 700/0,
700/1, 700/3, 700/3a, 700/4, 700/5 and 700/6.  These 700x sets were produced only
in Europe.  The USA/Canada version of these sets are 702, 703, 705, 708, 711 (with
702 and 703 in a tall box, and 705, 708, 711 in almost the same boxes as the
European 700x sets.

Here is a copy of the 1961 Austrian catalog showing some of these sets, as well as
how the contents of a 700/4 or 700/5 set is assembled in checkerboard fashion.

Here is a copy of the 1961 USA Samsonite catalog.  It shows the American version of
these same sets.

Note:  these catalogs are on Horst Lehner's fabulous catalog website.  Horst lives
in Germany.

Ken, you found quite a collectible set.  If your set matches these pictures, then
you have the 1960-64 version of this set.  If the picture has several children
playing with a yellow background, then you have the older 1957-59 version of that
set.

Good luck!

I would like to ask if anybody know well about the classic Lego sets of '60s,
as I recently succeeded to get a set numbered "700/5" (I bought it from a
normal toy retailer in non-premiered price!).
I had already played with the bricks but forgot how they were contained.
I remember the white and red standard pieces were placed neatly in some
checkered pattern. I want to put them back the same.
Are there any site I can refer or could anybody teach me how they should be?

Please see

for the set I bought.

Gary, thank you for your kind reply. Too bad you couldn't access my site...The cable capacity of my provider may be poor in some crowded access. The scan has a superb lineup of real classic days with Lego cars! :-) But the opened box shown in front (...) (25 years ago, 5-Apr-00, to lugnet.general)
