Removing glue

I've recently acquired a couple of sets that are completely glued together.
Can anyone suggest anything to remove the glue so that I can take the sets
apart? I realize that the pieces are already slightly deformed because of the
glue melting them together, but I really would like to break the sets apart.

(...) That doesn't sound like much fun !!! Any indication what the glue might be? Rubber cement, if on the outer surface only, =might= come off by rubbing it with a dry towel, ink eraser, rubbing compound, or some other mild abrasive. Elmers glue (...) (25 years ago, 26-Mar-00, to lugnet.general)
