  LEGO grandfather clock

Folks, All had been quiet with my LEGO sculpting recently, but now I offer my grandest creation to date... [drumroll]... (URL) tock, eric (25 years ago, 20-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

  Re: LEGO grandfather clock

Eric, Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow!!!!!!!! Just awesome! Talk about a candidate for working at LEGO (TLC, LC, TLG, LG)! Scott S. (25 years ago, 20-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

  Re: LEGO grandfather clock

Wow! Now you need to build a LEGO mouse running up it. I would love to see the gearing mechanisms you built into that thing. Perhaps I could build one as well and put it into my LEGO train room. I especially like the picture of Parker Posey as (...) (25 years ago, 20-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

  Re: LEGO grandfather clock

Nice piece of work. Certainly impressive given the height and functionality. I like the doodads up on the top too. Nice touch. One thing I wonder about is what it sounds like - how much of a Grandfather-Clock-Like-Sound does it make? Does that great (...) (25 years ago, 20-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

  Re: LEGO grandfather clock

(...) Wow! That is incredible! Now all you need is a little cuckoo to jump out every hour! :) Excellent job, I love the way the escapement gear looks-- did it need to have exactly 12 cogs, thanks to our backwards timekeeping standards of multiples (...)   Re: LEGO grandfather clock

(...) Hmm. Maybe Eric's only 12 inches tall, and the clock's not that big after all... I mean, do we have any independent verification of his height? In all seriousness, that is one amazing piece of sculpting. And to think I was thrilled when I (...) (25 years ago, 20-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

  Re: LEGO grandfather clock

(...) we can tell how pleased you are with your creation! you almost cracked a pun! this _is_ your grandest creation so far! the inner workings are fascinating! your homespun gear looks like it could be an exhibit in ashley glennon's mini-fig museum (...)   Re: LEGO grandfather clock

Wow. I can only repeat what others have said. Wow. I have one request - details of how the two hands are driven through the clockface. A closeup of the outside, center of the clockface would answer my questions. Thanks, and great work. -Wes (...) (25 years ago, 20-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

  Re: LEGO grandfather clock

(...) The clock does make a rhythmic tick-tock sound... actually closer to a click-clunk sound. I thought about a strike-train/chimes... but didn't want to go overboard [grin] -- the mechanics would be that much trickier... plus LEGO bricks don't (...)   Re: LEGO grandfather clock

(...) Very, very nice! Well done! Now, your next project is to hook up a MindStorms RCX with a rotational sensor, to calibrate the grandfather clock with the RCX's internal clock. And, automatically wind the clock after a certain number of hours... (...) (25 years ago, 20-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

  Re: LEGO grandfather clock

All kidding aside, if he put in an RCX that would do that, he could also have it chime with it's built in sound ability. Mike Poindexter John Gerlach <john.gerlach@bestbu...om.nospam> wrote in message news:FonKH5.GIJ@lugnet.com... (...) (25 years ago, 20-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

Per requests, I have added a few more photos of parts of the grandfather clock. The first may be found at: www.ericharshbarger....ages/clock eric (25 years ago, 20-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

  Re: LEGO grandfather clock

Wow! This is fantastic! I was still in awe over R2D2, Alice in Wonderland, etc., but this... Wow! Keep 'em coming! EC (25 years ago, 20-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

  Re: LEGO grandfather clock

Mr. Harshbarger Uh. I'm awely amazed. This is such a magnificent blend of engineering and art. You've mustered the mastery of the finest potential provided by what mere mortals would call "just LEGO". It looks nice and works. It's rare that the two (...)   Re: LEGO grandfather clock

Eric, I can only echo the sentiments of the masses and say..."WOW!" Well, OK...maybe I can add a pointer too. You said that you wished to use lego chains for the weights but had to use monofilament because the chains weren't up to the job. Why not (...) I think I'm with the rest of the group when I say WOW!!!...!!! Eric, you want to come to my house and play??? and hopefully some of your wonderous talent will rub off on me? When are you going to go work for Lego and build us some truely awe (...) (25 years ago, 21-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

  Re: LEGO grandfather clock

Too much trouble to thread monofilament thru the chain... if I'm gonna use a non-lego element (the filament)... I'll use it as simply as possible (w/o the chain). Plus the thread chain would not mesh well with the gears. eric (...) ---...--- Eric (...) (25 years ago, 21-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

  Re: LEGO grandfather clock

Well I must say along with everyone else... Wow! That's bloody amazing! I would love to see that in person. Have you thought about applying to Lego yet? (25 years ago, 21-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

  Re: LEGO grandfather clock

(...) Great job Eric! Until now, I had never thought of LEGO as practical furniture, but you have proven otherwise! I really like your "broken pendiment" chippendale top.   Using an RCX

Good idea, I have built a prototype pendulum clock using the RCX that has a realistic tick tock sound and swinging pendulum. Instead of weights it uses the RCX to give the pendulum a 'kick' every second, this allows it to run indefinetly. Now I just (...) (25 years ago, 21-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

  Re: Using an RCX

(...) You should post a few pictures of your clock mechanism. I would really like to see how you incorporated the RCX with the pendulum in your design. This idea seems more practical for a long term running clock then having to wind up weights every (...) (25 years ago, 21-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

  Re: LEGO grandfather clock

(...) Once again, it's proved that while special pieces are cool, nothing beats a massive quantity of good ol' bricks to build something great. So now... what are you going to do with BLUE bricks? -Tom McD. when replying, spamcake was rationed in (...) (25 years ago, 22-Jan-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)
