The other reason is cost. A BURP costs a lot less than the pile of bricks it
would take to make an equivalent shape. TLC has then taken advantage of the
hollowness of the BURP in several sets.

Castle wall pieces are definitely versatile. Other good pieces are things
like the pirate ship hulls, which while very specific, can still be used in
a variety of sets, and add significant strength to the constructio.

Are you talking about the 45 degree walls/windows? Those are also heavily
used in town.
