It makes you wonder what the process is for TLG, when they design prefab
pieces.  A lot of the prefab pieces that you see, seem to make sense (ie.
Castle walls, columns, windshields), but some are just hard to figure
out ,such as the rock piles (BURPS?).  Why not just package regular bricks,
and then you could have many different looking piles of rocks.

It seems to me that the best prefab piece is one that is widely used in it's
own set group, as well as future groups.  Such as Castle walls.  These pieces
are used in practically every castle set, in addition to the pirate series.

And if the prefab piece is not widely usable across genres, it should at least
have more than one use in it's own genre.  Such as Space shields.  These can
be used as Spaceship shilds/visors, as well as Space base windows/walls.

The overall bad prefab pieces seem to have only one purpose, and are fairly
unusable in any other context.  Such as the UFO hull plates (from what I hear
anyway, I don't have any for myself).  These seem to have only one purpose,
which is to be the hull of a UFO.

Your opinions?

FWIW, this sounds reasonable to me.  As much as I disagree with JW, I do
agree on this point, that some sets are made to clear out excess parts.  I
am sure, upon occasion, TLC says, "Why did we ever make this piece?  How are
we possibly going to use them all?"
Then you find things like Time Losers, er, I mean Cruisers on the
shelf...
