What can I say? I love it! I might have used different Shogun minifig pieces
for the kings in addition to flag changes, but it still looks great. It is
obvious that you put a lot of work into this board. It would be nice if The
LEGO would save fans the trouble by offering pre-made chess boards so that we
could build our own themes. I would like to see in a SAHS Catalog boards made
in the the following color combinations:
     - Black & White (Standard)
     - Tan & Brown (For that Classic look)
     - Blue & Gray (great for Civil War/Calvary battles)
     - Orange & Cool Purple, or Red & Blue (for those who prefer fun colors
over tradition)
     - True Green and "Statue" Green (for those with a lot of soccer
players...)
     Lastly,
     - Red & Black (It also doubles as a checkerboard!)
These boards should include chess-related elements that would ordinarily be
rare to LEGO sets, such as 2 horses per color (with saddles matching the board
colors), 2 gold crowns, Board-matching "Princess" hats, 2 different wig styles
for each of the queens, 2 different colored male wigs, broadswords for the 4
Knights, and other minor things you can add to your own LEGO Collection.
Not having the needed number of tiles, I can only marvel at the works of
others. Otherwise, I could probably round myself up a nice board, especially
with a minifig population of 50-something, including 2 Insectoid Queens (ooh...
catfight!), all 3 Ninja Shoguns (Blue, Red, and White/Black), and a large
general population, plus minions to the above.
Keep up the good work. If you had enough of your Ninja Sets to sell, I
would probably want to buy one.

The most fun of course was the rook which is my newest "super" microfig
scale 3 donjon japanese castle.  Microfigs have grown on me since I
made some for my Great Wall of China microfig village backdrop.

Special thanks to Marc Nelson, Jr. who graciously shared his nagatina
construction idea.  Lugnet is full of such nice people.
This chess set will probably be appearing in a brickbay shop near you
soon !

James, Thanks for the kinds words on the set. Your idea of Lego offering pre-made chess boards is a very good one. As usual, AFOLs can come up with ideas that would probably be money makers for TLC but some of our ideas never see the light of day. (...)
