Hello all,

I have not posted here very often but I some observations regarding regional
and national conventions from a different perspective. I attend gaming
conventions regionally and nationally and I am planning to attend Brickfest
next year.

I agree with Frank. There is more than enough room for multiple events
nationwide at different times. I disagree with the opinion that more
conventions or fests will dilute the attendance or excitement of attending
the grand-daddy event in DC. There are hundreds of regional gaming
conventions across North America and huge conventions, Origins in Columbus,
OH and the grand-daddy of them all Gencon in Milwaukee, WI. Gencon had
25,000 plus attendees last year. I believe the regional Lugs could support
individual conventions and a national convention hosted by WAMALUG at DC. I
pose this question how many people did not get to attend Brickfest opposed
to those who did get to attend the event.

Lego representatives will not come to every event, but may offer support for
large gatherings of organized LUGs.

Scheduling is extremely significant to participation in these events. I
could not attend because of the normal fluctuations of workload and my
vacation scheduling is done in Dec of the preceding year. So multiple events
would allow me and many others the oppurtunity to attend some kind of Lego
event.

I agree with Richard W. Schamus (legoman34) that the name Brickfest is
synonymous with the event held in the D.C. area. Any events that are
conceived and planned should come up with new names and symbols to represent
them. (Hint: copyright the name.) The Lego community is creative if nothing
else, so new names and themes should be on oppurtunity for growth and
expression.

The major conventions are four day conventions. This would alleviate the
problems mentioned in previous posts about going to the Outlet and set-up
for the individual Brickfest events.

I understand the feelings of ownership the organizers and participants have
for Brickfest. A considerable effort of blood, sweat, and tears is mandatory
to organize an event of this magnitude.
To the people are worried about diluting the special magic of Brickfest,
remember Brickfest is the first, the grand-daddy of all Lego conventions,
and no one can take that away from you.
