Of course everyone wants as close to them as possible.  And why should
population have anything to do with where it is held?  Of course California
has a huge population, there are more people crammed into that state then in
the entire country of Canada.  And you are forgetting about about (most) of
the Canadians and others who are farther north like Seattle who have said
that they are not interested in hosting or participating in a Brickfest West
in California.  You LUGOLA and others in California have large and active
group, lets not try to disrupt the attempt to have something like a
Brickfest West or Northwest which was the original idea here, where people
like myself who don't have a local group of AFOL to try to meet others.

My 3 cents.

Amusingly, just about everyone wants it held as close to them as possible!
Realistically, San Francisco or south of it a bit make the most sense
geographically.  I suppose one could make the argument that Seattle makes
the most sense for playing with Lego in January (today's forecast: Gray!
With continuing gray throughout the day and fade to black at night - might
as well stay inside and play with Lego).  Population wise, SoCal (with the
added attraction of being close to Legoland and lots of other touristy things).

Those championing January should realize that they are simultaneously
championing southern latitudes.  Grey castle bricks, grey Seattle
skies....I'm not sure I can take it!  :-)

Hey all,

I have been kicking this idea around myself, especially since the mech
builders who didn't make it to BrickFest were so jazzed about attending
BrickFest next year. I even solicited a few e-mail responses about it.

Here are some of my ideas:

Name: BricksWest (Cute? Clever? Dumb? What?)

Date: Late November-December-the opposite of BrickFest for those with the
resources to do both coasts-possibly January, about the same diff'...we
COULD still pull one off THIS year...

Location: Something more central is preferred...Santa Maria, where I'm
at-Central Coast California-is probably either too north or too south. San
Francisco might be smart, but like Tom said, Carlsbad would probably be
best, resource wise. If California ends up being too far for the Pacifc
North West folks, prehaps two events are called for?

Events: Similar to BrickFest...I'm sure Christina would forward most/all of
their stuff to us to organize from. Obviously, with LEGOLAND and Disneyland
(LIC at Downtown Disney) and all, Southern California would have the best
outside activities, everything else just requires several conference rooms
or the like. Here in town I have the Santa Barbara County Fairgrounds, and
could get time there with no problem...there should be something similar to
this everywhere.

I've done event management, and wouldn't mind organizing the overall event
(yes...that's me volunteering...don't tell my wife!). If it's way out of my
area, I'll also help remotely.

So? What do you all think? Weigh in with choices on location, dates, etc.
here, or e-mail me, and I'll be happy to start sorting ideas together. I'll
put up a temporary web site for organizing notes and all if it's called for,
also.

Matt

(...) I thought I just said that. :-) (...) So it's easier for more people to attend. Why do many so-called "national" conventions cater to the east coast? More people. Personally, I don't know why there has to be a "national" Lego convention, and I (...) (23 years ago, 16-Jul-01, to lugnet.events)
