LEGO in CG classes was: easier parts authoring

(...) could post some of the other things your class has created? One question: The credits list MLCAD and LDraw as applications used in the creation of the video - can you elaborate on this? Did they use LDraw measurements (or actual parts) in the (...) (20 years ago, 9-Mar-05, to lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.edu, FTX)

  LEGO Factory Judge Pages Archived?

One side benefit to LF (IMO) has been the spotlight pages on the judges. It's fun to read each judge's background, childhood favorites, etc. and then try to see how that reflects in his/her designs. From a teacher's point of view, I also loved the (...) (20 years ago, 21-Jan-05, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.edu, FTX)

  OK, I'm torn

Today I had a first - -Student brings in a set of BI to show what he wants to make for his first project in my 3D AutoCAD class. -It's a Megabloks kit. :( Cool model, though. :) Darrell (20 years ago, 14-Sep-04, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.build.microscale, lugnet.edu, FTX)

  Re: Permission Req'd for Education?

(...) I think just an overreation. I know if you ask the publisher, they will typically say, "No!" and inside the book cover it says you cannot reproduce anything, but the fair use doctrine says otherwise. You would have to copy a lot from a book to (...) (20 years ago, 30-Aug-04, to lugnet.edu, FTX)

  Re: Permission Req'd for Education?

Hi, Thanks so much for the thoughtful and informative response. You basically confirmed what I had suspected - better for me to get permission before I include unauthorized AFOL imagery in my class material. But given the web-savvy most students (...) (20 years ago, 30-Aug-04, to lugnet.edu, FTX)

  Re: Permission Req'd for Education?

(...) It is always the most polite and least risky thing to do to ask permission to use images that you yourself did not create. However, it is not necessarily unlawful to use them if you don't (in the United States, at least, other countries may (...) (20 years ago, 29-Aug-04, to lugnet.edu, FTX)

Re: Motivating CAD students to model LEGO (was prototyping)

(...) I am amazed that the architecture students would need any motivation to design with legos. Being an architect myself I cannot even fathom the thought! One suggestion would be to ask the students to try and model their previous projects using (...)   Motivating CAD students to model LEGO (was prototyping)

(...) Well, my Semester starts in two weeks, so if you have any tips I'm all for hearing them! My biggest problem is motivating the Architecture students in my group. The Engineers don't really care what they draw (a widget is a widget is a widget). (...)   Re: The L PRIZE Pre-Launch: Call for Volunteers, Sponsors, Donations

(...) I think LDView was used with the wireframe option turned on. I meant to make a few more of these up for Tim but got sidetracked. -Orion (20 years ago, 19-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.events, lugnet.edu, FTX)

My curiosity has gotten the best of me. What did you use to render the various header images? (I have my suspicions, but they're not quite hi-res enough for me to be sure.) --Travis Cobbs (20 years ago, 19-Jul-04, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.events, lugnet.edu, FTX)
