The new (2000 release) Duplo trains and the "old" (mid 1990s release) trains
are fully compatible, they use the same grey track including the stop/start
rail in service packs 5024 and 5027. The overall look of the new engines
and wagons (except for the circus push loco) is different so they look a bit
odd with the "old" wagons but they do hitch together, same mechanism.
I'm not sure about the even older black Duplo track, I have seen it but I
don't own any so I can't say whether they'd join together with the grey
track or not. They look like they would but if I recall correctly the black
tracks are longer. Not sure whether the curvature is the same either.
