What, pray tell, would be the point of licensing a PG-13 movie to make
toys for the under-12 market?  They picked the right one.  Going with
Harry Potter was a much better business decision for LEGO than LOTR
would have been.

(BTW, the book is irrelevant - licensed toys are based on visual
media, not books.  If the visual medium is based on a book, then
that's another marketing tie-in, no more.  Until there is a
blockbuster Pern movie, you can forget that idea, too.)

Making AFOL's happy is not what LEGO is about, except perhaps for some
of the Shop at Home exclusives.

What I want to see is a licensing deal with the movie that is
currently in production based on Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin
novels.  Realistic ships of the Napoleonic wars...  They wouldn't even
need to make many new molds; they can just use the Pirates parts for
much of it.

seeing Lord of the Rings Lego. Just think what they could do with that!

I think the Pern series would make a great Lego theme, and many
of the parts already exist. You already have dragons (although they
are a bit small for the Pernese dragons compared to the size of
minifigs) and many people would welcome them in more colors
(mmmm, gold and bronze dragons!), while the new parts required
would be useful in other themes (musical instruments, for example).

AMAZING BUT TRUE: There is so much sand in northern Africa that if it were
spread out it would completely cover the Sahara Desert!
