Internships I know don't require you to pay the student because it is part of
their learning although many do pay students for internships. I think it
really comes down to the profession. I know that IS/IT/MIS (whatever acronym
you want) students are usually paid but many marketing students are not. I
think it all gets to the availability of full time jobs in the profession and
the competition among companies for good help.
I don't know about work study but I would guess work study students are
supposed to be paid.
